Obsolescence study for a 24,3 MWp solar PV plant in the South of France
Project Context
The client selected 8.2 Advisory to carry out a technical analysis assessing strategies to mitigate the ageing of a 24.3 MWp ground-mounted solar plant. The assignment focused on reviewing the conditions and available options for replacing photovoltaic modules at the site.
Scope of Work
8.2 Advisory provided the Client with a detailed report, including:
- An electrical and mechanical review of potential replacement modules
- Strategies for the procurement of the chosen replacement modules
- An analysis of potential mismatch losses with different replacement module strategies
- Operational considerations to ensure :
- Minimal production loss during the equipment replacements
- Sufficient stock of all modules (existing & new) would remain for the future lifetime of the plant
Conclusion
- Validation of a replacement module to alleviate the obsolescence risk
- Definition of a procurement strategy to ensure the optimal quantity of modules
- Definition of an optimal replacement strategy to avoid mixing new and existing modules
Proposed next steps
- Accompanying during the installation phase to ensure the plan is operated correctly
- Yield assessment of the future installation for budgeting purposes
- Performance analysis of the site before and after the module replacement, to ensure modules are performed as planned
